Nursing qualifications acceptable to the Council

In accordance to this regulation the Council will state acceptable qualifications to practice nursing in Maldives. In addition the Council will also state basic or specialized fields of nursing and their levels of training.

The Registrar will provide a list of basic and specialized qualifications acceptable to the Council.

In respect of nurses whose original registration was obtained outside Maldives, the Council will evaluate the applications using an authenticated transcript from the training institutions. A verification document received directly from the original registration body and at least two professional references on a form prepared by the Council, one of which must be from the applicants most recent employer as a nurse/midwife.

The qualifications offered from Institutions and Colleges locally and abroad will be verified and accredited by the Council in collaboration and consultation with those Institutions and Colleges.

Information on courses/examinations

The Maldivian Institutions which train and conduct the courses for nursing categories stated in the table of this regulation must provide to the Council, both annually and on request all relevant information on course content, curricular, examination procedures and entrance criteria leading to qualification in any of the categories.

Inspection

The Maldivian Institutions/Colleges, which conduct the courses for nursing categories stated in the table of this regulation, will be inspected on how the courses are conducted and examined. The Inspector will be either from the Council or relevant persons appointed by the Council.

After inspection a written report will be submitted to the Council. The report will state whether the Institution / College is providing the nursing courses at an acceptable standard recognized by the Council.

The Council will study and assess the report, and if a clarification is required the Institution / College will furnish them.

After assessment of the report, and conducting any other investigations it may require, the Council, if it concludes that the courses available at the Institutions/Colleges do not meet the required standards may, (without prejudice to students who will complete their period of training in the intervening period) require that the deficits identified be remedied within a prescribed time scale. Failure to do so would enable the Council to use its power to remove the Institution/College from its list of approved providers of courses leading to registration.
