The
Register will be divided into parts to indicate the specific
qualifications and other necessary details of each person
registered will be maintained. Permanent registration will
be given only to Maldivian nurses.
Expatriates
who satisfy the Council's criteria will be offered temporary
registration at the discretion of the Council and in accordance
to the period of contract stated by the employer.
All
categories of nurses can practise in Maldives only after
being registered. In order to be admitted to the register,
eligibility having been established the applicant must pay
the registration fee. The amount of the fee will be determined
and announced by the Council. In order for registration
to remain effective, persons whose names have been placed
on the register will also be required to pay periodic 'renewal
of registration' fees. In such instances they must also,
if the Council so requests, provide evidence of their endeavours,
since original registration or the last renewal of registration,
to maintain and improve their knowledge and skill relevant
to their area of professional practice.
The
Council may exercise its power to refuse renewal of registration
until corrective measures have been taken if it is not satisfied
that the person's knowledge and skills are up to the required
standard.
It
shall be an offence for any person to claim, for any reason,
that they are registered with the Maldives Nursing Council
when they have not been admitted to the Council's register,
or their registration is not currently effective.
The
Council has the right to temporary suspend or de-register
a nurse, if found guilty of conduct or a criminal offence
which stands in violation of the Council's Code of Ethical
and Professional Conduct.
The
Council may also, after due consideration and earnest attempts
to remedy the situation, suspend or de-register any person
whose fitness to practice is found to be seriously impaired
by illness or by incompetence which might endanger the public.
